WHO WE ARE & WHAT WE DO

Shopmobility Ballymena was founded in 1999 and has been providing help and assistance to people with mobility difficulties ever since. As a charity registered with the Charity Commission for Northern Ireland, Shopmobility Ballymena has helped thousands of people and demand continues to grow.

Shopmobility Carrickfergus was also founded in 1999 and was ever-present in Carrickfergus until March 2019. To ensure the service remained available to local people, Shopmobility Ballymena took on the management of Shopmobility Carrickfergus in October 2019 and it reopened on 4th November 2019. The two locations are now one Shopmobility scheme.

Shopmobility is a free service and can be used by anyone. You do not need to be registered as disabled to be a member of the scheme. The Shopmobility model allows anyone with a mobility difficulty, whether a life-long disability, during recovery from surgery, a sports injury or anywhere in between, to recover lost mobility by loaning mobility equipment such as electric scooters, manual wheelchairs and other aids. Shopmobility Ballymena also provides access to an electric wheelchair for long-term members, subject to training.

For insurance purposes and for security of the equipment, anyone using the service must sign up as a member. See Membership for details.

Equipment can be hired out anytime during our opening hours in Ballymena of 10:30am to 4:30pm, Monday to Friday and in Carrickfergus of 11am to 3pm Monday, Wednesday & Friday. We also do Long-Term Hire if you want to take anything overnight, or longer, but there will be a charge for this. Please contact the team and we can discuss availability and cost.

Shopmobility Ballymena is based in the Tower Centre in Ballymena, beside B&M. We are also in the process of opening a satellite service in the Fairhill Shopping Centre, to increase the support available to people from, and visiting, Ballymena.

Shopmobility Carrickfergus remains in its original location at 30 North Street, Carrickfergus.

We are also part of the wider Shopmobility Northern Ireland network that covers many of the towns and cities in Northern Ireland.

Shopmobility Ballymena and Shopmobility Carricfergus were both founded in 1999 and have been providing help and assistance to people with mobility difficulties ever since.

Shopmobility is a free service and can be used by anyone.
